Videos

Here are links to the few videos on Youtube that I’ve done in the area. You’ll probably have realised that I mostly do still photography, but there are a few descents and suchlike where stills will never get the sense of what it’s like to descend some of the more spectacular roads here. I haven’t added any music, as I’m not thinking of music as I descend – too much to concentrate on – but you will hear lots of wind noise. On more recent videos I’ve reduced the wind noise by taping over the microphone, but you might want to turn the sound down anyway.

Apologies if the quality of my camera work isn’t up to the standard of some of what you might see on the internet (I use a helmet-mounted camera, and it’s not always easy to avoid shake), but I think they all give a good idea of what it’s like to descend longer or shorter hills.

I’ll add to this collection over time. If there’s a hill in the area you’d like me to capture on video, please do let me know!

Col de Rousset -a classic descent, with eight hairpins separated by long straights

Col de Cabre – not a long descent, but a very good one on good surfaces, and quiet

Gorges des Gâts – spectacular tunnels at the top, and a long gentle ‘false flat’ towards the end

Col de Menée (part 1) – from Col de Menée to les Nonnières, another classic descent

Col de Menée (part2) – from les Nonnières to Menée, more lovely descent

Le Claps (Luc-en-Diois) – the short but silky smooth gentle descent through the amazing 15th century rockfall

Combe Laval – the lower part of the balcony road, where it gets decidedly interesting. Apologies for the shakiness – this was handheld.

Combe Laval, complete – from the top tunnel to just after the last tunnel.
