Improvising…
I think French weather forecasters must be using up a lot of Gallic shrugs at the moment: their forecasts are getting important bits right (such as last night’s impressive thunderstorm), but the details seem to be rather random at the moment. La Chaine Meteo (my general source for getting the gist of what lies ahead) had forecast a day with quite a bit of sun, but this morning stayed grey and showery, and even when I set out at midday, the clouds were still prowling along the valleys.
My plan had been to go to Dieulefit, but given the weather, I headed out to Saillans to see what les Trois Becs looked like: if still shrouded in cloud (they were), Plan B was to keep heading along the Drôme to Allex, a large village I’ve gone past several times, but never really stopped. It obviously has an impressive vantage point on its own elongated hill, but until I started walking through its tiny streets and steep paths, I hadn’t realised how much of it was clearly medieval. There was also the lovely bonus of the church being open, and it being a lovely interior space… and although quite dark inside, by the magic of photography, you can see it in all its glory.
