The second of today’s minor road diversions definitely needed a map for navigation. I like to try to commit chunks of routes to memory, but with so many junctions to negotiate, and unfamiliar place names, the map was vital.
Here are the road numbers and places: Souspierre D179 to Salette and beyond, D328 to Rochebaudin, D328 and D197 to Francillon-sur-Roubion.
Highlights were (apart from the tailwind), the stunningly quaint but slightly ridiculous village of Rochebaudin, the short gorge road away from there, the climb up towards Pascalin, and the pretty village of Francillon. There was also a very impressive apple farm on the approach to Pascalin.
The descent to Francillon was a bit gravelly, and had to be taken carefully, but once below the trees the views across to the perched valley at Saoû meant I wanted to enjoy the sights anyway.
